OK so I kinda just stumbled upon this. A friend just recommended listening to
Toro Y Moi and so I listened to their song
Talamak (link to to it is here somewhere) and I have to say I'm impressed, its kinda like a romantic
Daft Punk (1) song circa Homework and the song
Fresh. After doing some wiki research I found some other acts riding on the Chill Wave movement;
Neon Indian (now my utter faves) and Washed Out. I know these guys have been around for a little while but it's only a matter of time before they hit the big time and I hope to god they break through the one year wonder barrier that a lot of summer bands fail to do.
By that I mean release one decent single that defines the summer of that year and then they become nothing more than a one hit wonder.
And yeah, so listening to these guys has given me a pretty good idea on what summer is going to be like this year (for at least me if not everyone). DO I SEE A 60's/70's fashion MOVEMENT COMING BACK I THINK SO! And I'm very excited about it, this means I can wear my turquoise blue tie-dye Miami t shirt and look good. Summer 2010 is going to be all about
Holga and Diana photography (2), small festivals and
The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test (3) and Ken
Kesey.
(1) - Speaking of Daft Punk, rumor has it that they're performing at a few venues this year!!! Manchester, London and Dublin being a few that have leaked so far, AND I-AM-GOING!(3) - Theres going to be a film adaptation of Tom Wolfes The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test released sometime this year too. Which reminds me I should really finish reading that bookbut I get distracted to easily.(2) - So yeah I bought a Holga camera around this time last year, took some photos, got bored, never developed them and stuck the camera in my drawer until I rediscovered it the other week. Ive started taking some more photos with it, most of the subjects will be either landscapes, objects around the house and maybe random curiosities I see when I'm out and about. Theres a scrap-yard I went to yesterday which I plan to revisit with my camera once Ive got the time and once a can actually be bothered to leave the house for things other than work and mooching around. I just really liked how all the cars were aranged, and even though they been in some nasty collisions they way they were presented kinda looked organised in a way. Even though pictures of scrap cars with an old camera is gonna seem real cliche I'm gonna do it anyway as I need to start somewhere. I'll post them up on here along with the other miscelaneous photos Ive taken once theyve been shot and/or developed.Still on the subject of photogrpahy I just typed in 'Holga photographs miami' (ever since I my parents have been to Miami I've kinda become obsessed with it) into google images and found this picture. And its taken by this guy (whose work I'm definately going to start following).
